The Andrew County Food Pantry provides monthly food supplements, and paper and soap products for county residents who find themselves needing assistance. Food Pantry shelves are filled primarily by community food donations and food allocations distributed by Second Harvest Food Bank. Monetary donations collected for this program are used to purchase perishable food items, such as meat, eggs, butter, milk, and bread, as well as non-perishable food items. Purchases are made through the Second Harvest Community Food Bank and local grocery stores. The Food Pantry is managed and run by volunteers.

Low-income Andrew County seniors of at least 60 years of age who are in need of food assistance may be eligible to receive additional support through the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). Seniors wanting to be on the recipient list for the CSFP Senior Boxes are required to complete an application. (Visit the Andrew County Food Pantry during business hours to learn more.)
Each month Second Harvest Food Bank provides Andrew County Food Pantry with 80 CSFP Senior Boxes (i.e., 30-lb each plus dairy cheese). The first 80 eligible Andrew County seniors are guaranteed a CSFP Senior Box if they pick it up by the 15th of the month. If there are any CSFP boxes remaining after the 15th of the month, eligible seniors on the Wait List will be notified in the order they submitted their application that CSFP boxes are available.
Initiated by Andrew County Ministries in 2007, the Backpack Buddies Program provides children receiving free or reduced-price school lunches with supplemental weekend, kid-friendly foods. Each child enrolled in Backpack Buddies receives healthy, easy-to-prepare breakfast, lunch, and snack food supplements for each weekend and extended holiday breaks throughout the school year. Food for the Backpack Buddies Program is purchased from the Second Harvest Community Food Bank and costs $199 per student for the entire school year. Funding for this program is obtained through private donations from Andrew County businesses, churches, residents, and charitable trust foundations, such as the Harry Duncan Foundation and the Emmet Hobbs Foundation. Backpack Buddies Program volunteers distribute the meals to schools.
